Hispanic Heritage Month
It’s a celebration in America to recognize the achievements and contributions of Hispanic American champions who have inspired others to achieve success.
It’s celebrated from Sept 15th to October 15th. Many Spanish speaking countries celebrate Independence day during this period: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua all share the anniversary on September 15th. Mexico celebrates on September 16th and Chile on September 18th.
Few day ago I was baking this cookies and I got different colors on them … ( forgot the last batch in the oven and that’s why the last one is like “crunchy” LOL )
But then I realize that this cookies are like human beings, even we are some times different in skin color, we are made of the same, in this case: flour, sugar, eggs …
I really love the opportunity to know people from different countries and learn about their cultures, traditions, music, food, flavors, etc Maybe that’s why I bake Mexican pastries, because I also love to share mine.
Pan de muerto
It's a type of pan dulce traditionally baked in Mexico during the weeks leading up to the Día de Muertos ( Nov 1st and 2nd)
This holiday was created as a time to remember and honor our loved ones who have passed away by getting together and enjoying all their favorite things including favorite food and drinks, usually placed on altars.
The classic recipe for pan de muerto is a simple sweet bread recipe, often with the addition of anise seeds, and other times flavored with orange flower water or orange zest and covered with sugar.
The bread is traditionally made as a round loaf, decorated with pieces of the bread shaped to look like bones on the surface. The top of the bread is usually decorated with sugar or sprinkled with icing sugar, which resembles bone powder.
